In 2016, I planned to go to Rojava, the Kurdish name for Syrian Kurdistan, to conduct a field investigation into the revolution that was underway in this territory. To be transported there, it was necessary to go through Iraqi Kurdistan. Once there, I learned of the existence of the Arbat refugee camp, near the city of Sulaymaniyah. This camp housed Syrian Kurds, victims of the war that Daesh was waging against them. The Kurds of Rojava were then attacked both by Daesh and by the Turkish air force, a NATO member. Many of them then found refuge in Iraqi Kurdistan. On the way, I decided to change my program and go visit and document the lives of the refugees in this camp. Despite several obstacles, I managed to obtain authorization to go there with a local Kurdish-Persian translator as my companion. Here are some unpublished images from this trip.

En 2016, je me rends au Rojava, nom kurde du Kurdistan syrien, pour mener une enquête de terrain sur la révolution qui était en cours sur ce territoire. Pour être acheminé là-bas, il était nécessaire de passer par le Kurdistan irakien. C’est sur place que j’apprends l’existence du camp de réfugiés de Arbat, près de la ville de Sulaymaniyah. Ce camp abritait des Kurdes syriens, victimes de la guerre que Daesh menait contre eux. Les Kurdes du Rojava étaient alors attaqués à la fois par Daesh et par l’aviation turque, pourtant membre de l'OTAN. Nombreux sont ceux qui ont alors trouvé refuge au Kurdistan d’Irak. En chemin j’ai donc décidé de modifier mon programme et d'aller visiter et documenter la vie des réfugiés dans ce camp. Malgré plusieurs obstacles, j'ai réussi à obtenir l'autorisation de m'y rendre en ayant comme accompagnateur un traducteur local kurde-persan.
